When you visit Yeppoon, you’re in for a treat, gorgeous beaches, wonderful scenery, our stretch of the coast is just packed with things to see and do.
So, what’s the best way to prepare and make sure you get the most out of the natural beauty and activities available on your trip?
Well, here’s a quick list of my recommended top 8 items that will make your visit one that you will never forget, and have you coming back for more…
1. Sun cream / sunglasses
Yeppoon certainly is the place to be if you want to escape to sunnier climes. One of the great places to hang out is Yeppoon Lagoon. Just a short stroll from Villa Mar Colina the lagoon is located right on the beachfront and includes a shallow children’s play area, an informal lap swimming area and a swim-up infinity pool with stunning views over the Keppel Islands.
It’s summer all year round, however there are differences between seasons with things getting slightly cooler in the winter months between May and October.
Temperatures in summer are around 30 degrees Celsius, dropping to a low of around 18 degrees Celsius over the winter months, making the cooler months ideal for hiking.
2. Swimming costumes
Being your swimmers!
Swimming in the ocean is easy and you’ll be able to see just how perfect the water is from your balcony here at Villa Mar Colina.
The water is pleasant all year round, with an average water temperature of 24.5°C
In summer the water is a very warm 27.6°C, and while this does drop in winter to around 21.3°C it is still comfortable and lovely to be in the water.
For a quick look at water temperatures now, or review them throughout the year when you’re planning your trip you can have a look at this useful website here.
One thing to note is people worry about jellyfish, and it is true that during November to March Tropical North Queensland becomes home to visiting box jellyfish, because of this most popular beaches have swimming enclosures in place to protect swimmers.
Of course, there’s no need to go to the beach if you want to relax in the water, instead take advantage of our rooftop infinity pool. Find out more about the pool and facilities on our facilities page.
3. Sensible shoes
Sounds sensible, but you’ll want to take advantage of the natural beauty around Yeppoon, all within easy reach from Villa Mar Colina.
Hiking in the bush is well worth the effort as the Capricorn Coast offers walking tracks with flora and fauna that will delight you, and views that will take your breath away.
There are plenty of marked out trails graded from the easiest of strolls to slightly more challenging longer hikes through the bush.
Stockyard point headland
One of the most popular is the Stockyard Point headland trail
Starting from the five rocks visitor area you can enjoy uninterrupted coastal views to the north and south from the lookout point. A short stroll further along the headland brings you to a sheltered lookout where you can look across to the Keppel Islands.
Distance: 540m : Time: Allow about 20mins walking time
If you’re looking for a more energetic experience the Bluff Point trail is the perfect choice.
Enjoy panoramic views of the Capricorn coastline and the Keppel Bay islands on the 2.3km circuit track. A steep 600m climb takes you to Turtle Lookout where you can admire the flooded hilltops of the Keppel Bay islands and see turtles swimming in the water beneath you.
The Bluff Point section, at the southern end of Kemp Beach, is a popular picnic spot with superb coastal scenery. It features a range of coastal vegetation from mangroves and heathlands to open eucalypt forests and tussock grasslands.
Distance: 2.3 km return : Time: 1.5 hours
Water Point Park
For the more adventurous there’s the Water Park Point Headland trail
Enjoy secluded beaches and views of Corio Bay as you navigate around Water Park Point headland at low tide. This is for the adventurous and fit who have navigation and rock-scrambling experience. Sturdy footwear with good grip is required. Tides are a consideration, so make sure to leave at least 2hrs before low tide to ensure you have enough time to return safely.
Distance: Undefined : Time: Allow about 4hrs walking time

These days most people have a camera on their phone, but if you’re an enthusiast and have an SLR then bring it along! With stunning coastal scenery and plenty to see inland, you’ll never be short of an opportunity to capture that perfect shot.
Did I mention the amazing sunrise, a photographers dream…
5. A windbreaker.
Explore offshore in style with a half day or full day cruise. Departing daily from Yeppoon these trips take you out to see the ocean wonders. A windbreaker can be a useful thing to have to keep off the sun, or the sea spray as you sail.
Tours will typically take you across the bay and around the coral reef, exploring secluded coves and hidden treasures as you circumnavigate the island.
Lunches and snacks are provided on day trips.
There are a number of tour operators to choose from, one we can recommend is Keppel Explorer. You can check them out here. Of course, if you’d like to chat through options with us when you arrive we’re more than happy to assist.
6. Mask, snorkel, and goggles
Bring a mask and snorkel set, although it is of course possible to rent them when you arrive.
It goes without saying that the marine life in the area is second to none given there is easy access to the Southern end of the Great Barrier Reef from Yeppoon. If you’d like us to help arrange any outings just let us know and we can help you plan your ideal day out.
7. A big appetite
Yeppoon is packed with fantastic places to eat catering to all palates and wallets. Here are just a couple of our favourite places to go.
Just a short walk from Villa Mar Colina is Yeppoon Lagoon, with the Rocks café, bar and restaurant nestled alongside. Grab a coffee or a pizza, treat your kids to an ice cream while they swim at the lagoon, or sip a signature cocktail as you relax by the water. Highly recommended.
Lure living coffee shop
Beachfront with beautiful Views and amazing Coffee. They also serve a great breakfast and delicious lunches. Acai bowls- fresh juices- smoothies- smiles, all in one fantastic location.
You can check them out over on their Facebook page.
The Waterline Restaurant
Slightly further down the coast, but well worth a visit, is the Waterline Restaurant. Fantastically located next to the Keppel Bay Marina the Waterline is known for the amazing seafood dishes on offer.
Seafood may be the signature, but beef is also very much on the menu. Yeppoon is the heart of cattle country, and the Waterline owners also own a farm. The eye fillet on your plate comes directly from Banana Station their cattle farm just up the road. Just about as tender as it gets.
8. Bring a smile.
Actually, there’s no need to worry so much about this one, as it is a guarantee that even the shortest time spent here will bring a smile to your face. We will check you in with a smile and let you know all you need to get the absolute most from your stay with us here at Villa Mar Colina.
